BTV’s Lisa has the power!
She’s done it again! Btomorrow Ventures Managing Director, Lisa Smith, has again been recognised in the Global Corporate Venturing (GCV) Powerlist 2022.
Lisa was named in the GCV 150 list for a second year running – this year making the top 50 – and her recognition comes soon after BTV’s Lukasz Garbowski was named as a GCV rising star of 2022.
GCV compiles its annual “powerlist” from more than 6,000 global corporations investing either directly or indirectly in start-ups. Lisa’s ranking in the top 50 places BTV in the top 1% of corporate venture funds worldwide and ahead of industry competitors.
Lisa said: “Awards like this are for the whole BTV team and show the great strides we’ve made since making our first investment in 2020.
“Being among the top 1% of venture funds worldwide is a fantastic achievement by the team and our partnering colleagues in BAT and we look forward to delivering more benefits through collaboration in the rest of 2022 and beyond.”
BTV helps support BAT’s A Better Tomorrow™ transformation into a multi-category consumer goods business. Its work gives BAT early access to cutting-edge technology, unlocking innovation through R&D collaborations and enabling “test and learn” in new product categories, primarily in the areas of wellbeing and stimulation, biotech, science, sustainability and technology.
In less than two years, the BTV team has completed 18 investments across the globe, as well as completing its first two successful ‘exits’ (selling the investee company shares to a new acquirer). In both cases, BTV delivered both a strategic and a financial return, which acts as a great indicator to attract other top entrepreneurs.
In 2021, BAT launched an industry-first start-up accelerator programme in partnership with BTV. The programme focuses on identifying start-ups and disruptive entrepreneurs to collaborate with on new technologies and innovative solutions to address common sustainability challenges.
- Lisa Smith today delivers a keynote speech during the Global Corporate Venturing Symposium 2022 around the importance of global corporate venture capital, and how it has a role to play in addressing the climate emergency.
