The principle of Good Corporate Conduct is the basis on which all our businesses should be managed. Business success brings with it an obligation for high standards of behaviour and integrity in everything we do and wherever we operate. These standards should not be compromised for the sake of results.

Core Beliefs
GCC1 We believe our businesses should uphold high standards of behaviour and integrity
GCC2 We believe that high standards of corporate social responsibility should be promoted within the tobacco industry
GCC3 We believe that universally recognised fundamental human rights should be respected
GCC4 We believe our industry should have a voice in the formation of government policies affecting it
GCC5 We believe in achieving world class standards of environmental performance

The tobacco industry uses resources such as wood, water and energy and involves the use of agrochemicals. As in all manufacturing, our processes result in waste materials and our product leaves waste in terms of cigarette butts and packaging.
We aspire to maintain our position at the forefront of businesses actively minimising their environmental impacts and expect our Group companies to operate to consistently high standards of environmental performance everywhere.

Our responsibility is to work to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.

We will:

  • Continuously enhance rigorous and transparent environmental management systems to reduce the negative environmental impacts of our factories and operations;
  • Take environmental considerations into account in designing new products.

We should work together with the rest of the industry, business partners and suppliers to reduce the environmental impact associated with tobacco production.

For our part, we will:

  • Take environmental performance into account when selecting suppliers and business partners;
  • Work with our immediate suppliers and principal business partners to help them reduce the negative environmental impact of their operations and products;
  • Lead the industry in adopting sound environmental management practices.

We see it as the responsibility of many parts of society to play a part in protecting the environment; notably of consumers in disposing of our products responsibly, of conservation experts in guiding best practice and of governments in establishing environmental standards.

We will contribute by:

  • Engaging with governments on the development and implementation of appropriate environmental legislation for business;
  • Supporting effective environmental and biodiversity conservation programmes where agreed as appropriate with our Biodiversity Partnership members.
