British American Tobacco Korea is the second largest tobacco company in the Republic of Korea with a market share of approximately 18 per cent and annual sales of some 16 billion cigarettes.

The company employs around 1,100 people, with headquarters in Seoul and a manufacturing site in Sacheon City. It has 19 sales branches nationwide distributing its products to around 100,000 retailers.

British American Tobacco Korea has a number of sustainability initiatives in place. Examples include its youth smoking prevention programme, an industry-leading youth access control campaign in association with the Korean Tobacco Association, and various corporate social investment activities through which the business contributed KRW 282 million (£158,000) in 2010.

South Korea’s performance against some of our key measures can been seen in its balanced scorecard. The company has achieved the Group target of 100 per cent adherence to our International Marketing Standards. It has also outperformed the Group targets for water use, recycling and waste sent to landfill. For youth smoking prevention, the company is running an industry campaign, which you can read more about in its case study.
