Sustainability Report 2010

In 2009, we reviewed the results of our materiality test, particularly in view of our shift from local reporting to a single Sustainability Report for the Group. The process comprised two assessments.

Firstly, to identify any new issues for consideration, we reviewed the Group Risk Register, along with minutes from the year’s regional audit and CSR committee meetings and from stakeholder dialogue sessions held since 2008.

Secondly, we mapped the new issues onto our materiality matrix according to their current or potential impact on the Group and their level of interest to stakeholders.

The review of the Group Risk Register and the minutes from the committees’ meetings highlighted no sustainability related risks that are not currently captured within our sustainability agenda.

The review of the minutes from dialogue sessions highlighted a number of issues that were covered on www.bat.com Opens in new window but were not included in the Sustainability Report. The member organisation Business for Social Responsibility reviewed our conclusions. As a result, we now cover issues such as Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment and HIV/AIDS in this Report.

We continue to review the relevance of our sustainability agenda on an informal basis and, during 2010, there were no additional emerging issues that we felt needed to be included. We will carry out another formal review of the materiality test in 2012.
