British American Tobacco South Africa is one of our largest Group companies and has approximately 85 per cent market share. The business in its present form was created following the global merger of Rothmans International, partly owned by the Rembrandt Group, and London-based British American Tobacco p.l.c. The business has operated in South Africa since 1904.

The company has been seen as a leader in sustainability and reporting in South Africa and has a longstanding programme of stakeholder dialogue. In 2009, it engaged with stakeholders on the issue of black economic empowerment.
