british american tobacco p.l.c. sustainability report 2009 - Hybrid cars in Canada's car fleet

In 2008, Imperial Tobacco Canada account representatives travelled over 14.6 million kilometres and their vehicles consumed about 1.8 million litres of fuel. All this added up to over 4,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

In 2009, Imperial Tobacco Canada initiated a project to convert the 380 cars in the fleet used by its account representatives to hybrid vehicles. By the end of 2009 over 120 cars had been replaced and the fleet is expected to be fully hybrid by September 2010.

Once all the fleet has been converted, the company hopes to reduce the car fleet’s carbon impact by at least 30 per cent.
