Karen de Segundo"The revised CSR governance process better reflects our focus on CSR and sustainability. There are many opportunities and I believe that British American Tobacco is in a strong position to take advantage of them."

Karen de Segundo
Chairman of the Board CSR Committee

I was appointed as Chairman of the Board CSR Committee in May 2008 and, in that short time, I have had the opportunity to oversee a number of developments to the underlying process. I welcome the changes that have been made to CSR governance and believe that these will go a long way to embedding CSR and sustainability deeper into our operations.

It is timely that the audit function has further refined its approach to the identification and management of non-financial risk. The integration of audit and CSR governance, as outlined on these pages, allows us to take advantage of these developments and ensures that our governance remains at the forefront of best practice.

The Board CSR Committee intends to provide robust oversight of the Group’s CSR and sustainability activities to ensure provision of tangible value to the business. Key areas of focus will be the monitoring of CSR governance across the Group, the review of CSR policies and concomitant compliance, sustainability reporting and the review of key reputation risks.

The revised CSR governance process better reflects our focus on CSR and sustainability. There are many opportunities and I believe that British American Tobacco is in a strong position to take advantage of them.
