  • Launch our new Vype platform using our game-changing new vaping technology by end 2017
The launch has been delayed while we continue to develop the technology to give better product performance and consumer satisfaction.

  • Expand the reach of our Next Generation Products (NGPs) with launches in 10 new markets by end 2017.
In 2017, we launched our glo tobacco heating product in Canada, Switzerland, Romania, Russia and South Korea. In addition, our vapour products and tobacco heating products are now available in airport duty-free shops and, through our acquisition of Reynolds American Inc., we also now have vapour products available in the US.

  • 100% adherence to our Vapour Products Marketing Principles each year
In 2017, no incidents of non-adherence were identified through our internal controls.

  • Develop and publish new Marketing Principles for Tobacco Heating Products by end 2017
The principles were developed (but not yet published) in 2017 and now, as part of the integration of NGPs into our core business, we plan to develop a new set of consolidated Marketing Principles to cover all our product categories, including combustible cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and NGPs

  • Continue to take a lead in advocating for regulation that has high product standards and appropriate commercial freedoms, including contributing to the working groups of CEN for Europe-wide and ISO for global standards.
In 2017, we continued to share our technical and regulatory expertise in the EU Standards body (CEN) technical committee. This is a platform of 13 European national standards bodies working with vapers, regulators, industry and public health organisations to publish the first European standards on vapour products in 2018. Building on our contribution to CEN’s work at a regional level, we are also engaging with the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), alongside CEN and CORESTA, to introduce the first international technical standards on vapour products in 2018. In 2017, we also contributed to the publication of the world’s first industry standard for tobacco heating products in Russia. For more details, please see page 13 of our Sustainability Report 2017 .

  • Continue to present the results of our peer-reviewed scientific research into NGPs to regulators and other relevant bodies
We continue to share the results of our peer-reviewed scientific research into NGPs with regulators and other relevant bodies to help inform the harm reduction debate and contribute to the evidence base. For example, in 2017, we presented at over 20 international conferences, including those of the Society of Research in Nicotine and Tobacco, National Academy of Sciences and Society of Toxicology. For more details, please see page 12 of our Sustainability Report 2017 .

  • Continue to work with scientists, public health professionals, regulators and governments around the world to build support for innovative, potentially less risky products
In 2017, we continued to engage with key scientific, public health and regulatory stakeholders around the world to contribute to the harm reduction debate and build support for innovative, potentially reduced-risk products. For more details, please see pages 6-13 of our Sustainability Report 2017 .
