  • Reduce our CO2e emissions by 55% to 0.68 tonnes per million cigarettes equivalent (MCE) produced by 2025, and by 80% to 0.30 tonnes per MCE by 2050 (against year 2000 baseline)
By end 2017, Group CO2e emissions were 0.82 tonnes per MCE produced, 46% lower than our 2000 baseline. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Reduce our energy use by 25% to 9.17 gigajoules/MCE by 2025 (against year 2007 baseline)
By end 2017, Group water use was 3.27 cubic metres per MCE produced, 33% lower than our 2007 baseline. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Increase the amount of renewable energy we source to 25% by 2025
In 2017, 8.5% of Group energy use was from renewable sources. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Reduce the total amount of water withdrawn by 35% to 3.17 cubic metres/MCE by 2025 (against year 2007 baseline)
By end 2017, Group water use was 3.27 cubic metres per MCE produced, 33% lower than our 2007 baseline. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Increase the total amount of water we recycle to 15% by 2025 (against year 2007 baseline)
In 2017, the percentage of total water recycled was 11%. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Reduce our waste to landfill by 80% to 0.002 tonnes/MCE by 2025 (against year 2007 baseline)
By end 2017, the amount of waste sent to landfill was 0.0077 tonnes per MCE produced, 68% lower than our 2007 baseline. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Reduce the total volume of waste generated by 10% by 2025 (against year 2007 baseline)
By end 2017, the total amount of waste generated was 132,000 tonnes, a 2% reduction from our 2007 baseline. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Recycle at least 95% of our total waste generated each year
By end 2017, we recycled 93.2% of our total waste generated. See our environment data  for more details.

  • Aim to achieve zero accidents Group-wide
In 2017, accidents across the Group increased significantly, from 182 in 2016, up to 217. Sadly, this included the loss of life of one of our employees and eleven contractors working for us. Eleven members of the public also lost their lives in road traffic accidents involving BAT vehicles. See our health and safety data  for more details.

  • Significantly increase the representation of women and focus nationalities in senior management by 2020
Over the last few years, we have made significant progress with female representation at senior level. In the last six years we’ve grown this significantly and now have 21% female representation at senior level.
See our diversity data for more details.

In 2017, we had 143 nationalities working in management globally, and 20% of our senior management roles were filled by people from our focus nationalities.
See our diversity data for more details.

Please note, our environmental data and targets for reducing our CO2e emissions, our energy use, total amount of water withdrawn and waste sent to landfill are based on our intensity measure of per million cigarettes equivalent (MCE). See the data scope page for more details.
