We’re proud to have been recognised as a Top Employer Africa 2018.
British American Tobacco has been named as a Top Employer Africa 2018, reflecting the company’s commitment to developing its people and creating an employee environment in which they can flourish.
The company received the accolade after being certified as a Top Employer in South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Kenya and Nigeria by the Top Employer Institute, an independent global certification company. Employers that gained certification in four or more countries were also recognised as a Top Employer Africa.
Top Employer certification recognises the accomplishments of organisations that are providing the highest standards in employee conditions and is based on the results of an HR Best Practices Survey – a comprehensive analysis, conducted by the institute, of organisations’ HR management and employee conditions.
The company was presented with its certification at the Top Employer Africa 2018 awards ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa in October 2017.
Leslie Rance, Head of HR for BAT South Africa, said: “This certification recognises our efforts in building a legacy of leaders through putting our employees first and developing our HR practices. We are incredibly proud of the HR teams that have been actively driving these HR processes.”
Beverley Spencer-Obatoyinbo, Area Director for East and Central Africa (ECA), said it was a very proud moment for BAT Kenya and the ECA HR team “who work tirelessly to facilitate talent development and build a great cultural environment to leave a legacy of leaders for our business, a key pillar of BAT’s success”.
Chris McAllister, Area Director for West Africa Area (WAA), added: “It is fantastic to be recognised for our employee practices. We appreciate and value all of our employees across our markets in WAA and are committed to becoming an even better employer.”
British American Tobacco has also earned Top Employer recognition in other parts of the world. Earlier in 2017, the company was named as Top Employer Europe for the seventh consecutive year after gaining Top Employer certification in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Poland. British American Tobacco has also been recognised as a Top Employer in Russia and Brazil.
