No. We take precautions to keep genetically modified (GM) tobacco out of our supply chain because we respect consumers’ concerns about GM crops. We require assurance from our suppliers that their leaf does not contain it. All the tobacco we buy is subject to rigorous testing and if we found GM tobacco in a test sample, we would not buy that leaf. However, we believe that in future there may be benefits from genetic modification of tobacco crops, for example in quality, consistency, less use of agro-chemicals and potential for use in development of reduced-risk tobacco products. We are currently evaluating the potential benefits and risks of GM tobacco crops.
