Where artificial heat is needed for curing tobacco, we encourage the use of non-wood fuels - generally by-products of agriculture or forestry such as rice husks - and the building of fuel-efficient curing barns. Our Group companies also promote the use of sustainable wood sources, including British American Tobacco sponsored forestry. Some of our Group companies are also involved in community education programmes on afforestation. For packaging, we buy paper and board from suppliers who use trees from sustainable sources.
